Thanks to tokiohotelamerica for finding this!!

Tom: “Bill needs me, to be honest.” *dies laughing*

Watch it here, it is really good.

Tom Kaulitz has THE best sense of humor.

For those who cannot watch it or those who want to translate it to another language.

Hey New York, we are Tokio Hotel. And you are watching Rolling Stone.com.

We’ve heard you have crazy fans

Bill: Tokio Hotel Fans, they live the whole Tokio Hotel life with us. We travel in so many countries and they come with us and they sleep in front of the venues, I think 3 months before we came in the venue, it’s just crazy.

Tom: They write kilometre long fan letters and we have redesigned cars, Tokio Hotel cars…

Bill: And there was one girl she ran away from home, I think for 6 months…

Tom: For half a year, yeah

Bill: And that was just crazy. And she really wanted to find us but, we met her at an afterparty…

Tom: Yeah, an afterparty…

Bill: … in the end, but just I think for 10 seconds or something.

Tom: Yeah *laughing*

Bill: There was one special present, I think it was a star…

Tom: Yeah, we got a star…

Bill: And then it’s somewhere out there

Tom: A star called Tokio Hotel, yeah.

(He talks over Bill and I cannot hear what Bill is saying)

Your style has gotten a lot of attention:

Bill: For me, the very first time I wore makeup was at a Halloween party. I went to this party like a vampire and I think I was 10 years old and after that I said “Okay, I like it” and I started to color my hair and wear makeup and stuff and also in school and every day. If you take a look at the old pictures, you can see that George (English pronounciation) was so ugly and he is ugly right now.

Tom: It’s a fresh look.

We hear you like Nena’s “99 Luftballoons”…

Bill: I really like Coldplay, and Green Day but also Keene and I’m a fan of Nena. That was really my first contact with music. I was 6 years old and I saw Nena on TV in Germany and yeah, so, I’m still a fan of Nena.

Tom: He forced me to hear Nena in my childhood, so that was terrible.

Bill: It’s important to hear Nena.

Tom: And I listen to German Hip Hop music, George is a big fan of David Hasselhoff…

Bill: Yes!

Tom: Gustav is a fan of “Need artist’s name”, you don’t know “need artist’s name” I think, but also a good artist.

Georg: Not nearly as good as David Hasselhoff but…

Tom: Not a good dancer.

Were you nervous coming to America?

Bill: It’s really the first trip that we speak English and also on TV shows and in front of a camera, because we just speak our school English…

Tom: Our school English, ja.

Bill: It’s just some words and it was also a challenge for me to do the English record because I always sang in German and it’s really the first record that I tried to sing in English. And I really wanted to sound… I’m a perfectionist and I really wanted to sound like a native speaker and as you can hear, I’m not. So, that was really a challenge to do. But it’s a 1:1 translation from the German songs and we had some help with that but, yeah, I hope the fans will like it.

What’s it like being brothers in a band?

Bill: I think it’s normal because we were always together

Tom: Yeah, always the same friends, the same interests and yeah.

Bill: And we started to make music with each other…

Tom: Yeah

Bill: And in the beginning I just had a keyboard because we had no bass player and no drummer and, I don’t play an instrument. I was always too lazy for that.

Tom: Bill needs me, to be honest.

Bill: And he needs me so…

Dispatches From the Intern Desk: German Emo Invades

This past Friday, German pop sensation Tokio Hotel invaded the Rolling Stone office for an hour. As you can tell by the image above, these guys certainly have a unique image that has somehow struck a chord with teenage fans all over the world. I don't necessarily understand how this group got so popular, but I also do not think I am necessarily their target audience.

We did a short video interview with them in which they discussed such topics as German hip-hop, their infamous crazy fans, and of course, their love for David Hasselhoff (seriously, the 'Hoff came up at least two or three times).

Normally with a video shoot we're concerned about the usual things like setting up lights and making sure the audio is recording properly. However, this was the first time we were legitimately concerned that the lighting may or may not start a fire due to the amount of makeup and product applied to the band. (OK, so maybe we were a bit worried about the same thing when Heidi and Spencer also came in.)

Before the shoot, I was in the bathroom washing my hands when lead singer/heart-throb Bill walked in. His personal security guard stared me down, figured that a young intern such as myself was not a threat and let me finish drying my hands off without confrontation while Bill went and did his thing. It was one of the more bizarre moments I've had as an intern in the past couple of months, but knowing that I basically lived the dream of every 15 year old girl on the planet feels pretty damn good.

"Tokio Hotel" EXCLUSIVE: Bill and Tom talk about their triumphant US-tour
BILD 12.05.2008

Germany’s most successful rockband "Tokio Hotel" are still on their promotiontour in the USA for their English album "Scream" ("Schrei"). They flew after a tv-performance in New York to Los Angeles at the weekend, where they will perform today a concert. BILD talked with the twins Bill (18) and Tom Kaulitz (18) about their success in America.

BILD: You’ve just arrived in Los Angeles. What is the difference for you between L.A and New York?

Bill: These are two entirely different worlds for me. New York is much more European. L.A is more like what a European imagines as America.

BILD: Tomorrow you’ll play the first complete concert after Bill’s OP in Hollywood. Are you excited?

Bill: Yes, sure, shit, we’re in panic because of our excitement. Furthermore it’s the only US-concert. We are always nervous, but this time it’s even worse.

BILD: How do you feel now after you’re so successful in the USA?

Tom: We are so happy about the big fan-resonance here in the USA, but nevertheless I see the whole thing more as a first succès dèstime.

BILD: You call that a succès dèstime? Usually you’re not that modest.

Tom: Don’t worry, when we talk the next time about girls, then I’ll be immodest again for sure (laughs) No, seriously: I believe the really big USA-success will only come with complete new and worldwide not released songs. We have the aim to release the third album worldwide at the same time.

Bill: But we’re of course very happy anyway and thankful for what happens here right now in the USA. Some months ago we would never have expected that. But we just don’t want to overrate the US-success so far.

Tokio Hotel exclusive
Bill & Tom speak about their triumphal US-Tour
By Mark Pittelkau Published on bild.de May 12th 2008

Los Angeles – Germany’s most successful rock band Tokio Hotel are still on promotion tour through the USA, promoting their english language Album “Scream”. On the weekend, after performing in a TV show in New York they flew to Los Angeles, where they will give a concert tonight. BILD talked to the twins Bill(18) and Tom(18) Kaulitz about their success in America.

BILD: You’ve just arrived to Los Angeles. What is the difference for you between LA and New York?
Bill: For me these are two entirely different worlds. New York is much more European. LA in more like what a European imagines America.

BILD: Tomorrow you’ll play your first complete concert after Bill’s surgery in Hollywood. Are you nervous?
Bill: Yes, of course, shit, we’re going berserk with excitement. Additionally it’s the only US-concert. We’re usually nervous, but this time it’s even worse.

BILD: How do you feel now, that you’re also successful in the USA?
Tom: We’re totally happy about the great fan resonance here in the USA, but I still see this whole thing more as a success of esteem (quote from leo: something (as a work of art) that wins critical respect but not popular success)

BILD: You call that success of esteem? You’re not that modest normally.
Tom: don’t worry, when we talk about girls next time again, I’ll be un-modest again for sure. (laughs) No, seriously: I think, that the really big success in the USA will arrive with entirely new and worldwide unpublished songs. Our goal is to publish our third album at the same time worldwide.

Bill: But we are still of course very happy and thankful for what is happening in the USA right now. We didn’t expect that a few moths ago. We just don’t want to overrate the US-success so far.

German
„Tokio Hotel“ exklusiv

BILD: Ihr seid gerade in Los Angeles angekommen. Wie unterscheidet sich für Euch L.A von New York?

Bill: Das sind für mich zwei ganz verschiedene Welten. New York ist viel europäischer. L.A ist mehr das, was man sich als Europäer unter Amerika vorstellt.

BILD: Morgen spielt Ihr in Hollywood euer erstes komplettes Konzert nach Bills OP. Seid Ihr aufgeregt?

BILD: Das nennst Du Achtungserfolg?

Bill: Laryngeal-surgery
The end of Tokio Hotel?

Shock for the fans! Bill of Tokio Hotel have to be operated on the vocal cords! Exclusive in BRAVO is the singer talking about this drama!

It is probably the worst thing what for a singer can ever happen: He stands on the stage - and suddenly the voice break down! The truely horror became for Bill Kaulitz (1Cool of Tokio Hotel on the concert in Marseille / France for reality!
Bill fought, but there was no sound anymore - the show had to be aborted! "I stood on the stage and had suddenly hardly a voice. I didn't know what happened!", reveals the singer in the exclusive BRAVO-Interview. His twin brother Tom supplemented: "Bill stood with tears in his eyes in front of me. He was totally in despair! I've made myself serious worries!"
It was a big shock for the fans - and a even bigger shock for Bill! He was directly brought to the doctor. Diagnosis: a zyst on the vocal cords. Bill have to be operated soon, isn't allowed to sing for the next time! A total of 16 concerts had been cancelled!
Especially tragic for the german fans: Also the only german concert date in Dortmund was cancelled. A big disappointment for the many fans, who have been camping there since days. Bills surgery is necessary, but also dangerous for his voice! Will he ever sing like before the surgery? And how does it go on with Tokio Hotel?
Exclusive in BRAVO is Bill speaking about his fears and hopes!

BRAVO: How do you feel now?
BILL: I don't feel very well. I have fear because of the surgery and make myself big reproaches , that I've disappointed the fans. I'm totally sorry to all those, who ware sad now...
BRAVO: What kind of illnes do you have exactly - and which ailments does it take with it?
BILL: Oh, I do have heard so much technical terms .. But in my own words, easy and understandable expressed, it is an swelling on the vocal cords. Because of this swelling, the vocal cords are not able to vibrate evenly anymore. So that I can really sing again, it needs to be removed!
BRAVO: What exactly will be done on the surgery?
BILL: I don't really want to think about this! I just can say: It's totally disgusting! The doctors will slide, for me under general anesthesia, a metal rail into the mouth to operate my vocal cords. They will cut then away the swelling. This isn't a simple surgery - the surgery takes circa an hour can only carried out by an specialist. I do really have fear because of the surgery. But it have to be done. And the quicker I have it behind me, the sooner I can be back on stage!
BRAVO: What would happen, if you wouldn't get operated?
BILL: the doctors said, that the voice can be permanently damaged - and I could also lost my voice.
BRAVO: Do you have fear because of your voice?
BILL: Yes, of course! My voice is EVERYTHING for me! Without my voice and my music, I would no longer be the same Bill!
BRAVO: How long will it take before you can sing again?
BILL: That comes to the healing process. It's is different from person to person. Normally several weeks break. After the surgery I have to rest myself extremely. At least ten days I'm not allowed to talk. Then are following daily follow-up examinations and voice training - so to speak a rehab. The voice must be re-trained every day.
BRAVO: Does this drama initiate, or does it came sudden?
BILL: I don't know it exactly. It isn't directly associated with pain. It was discovered during the tour when I've had an infection.
BRAVO: What have you let done about you so far?
BILL: When I was back in Germany, I was driving from the one specialist to the next. We wanted to be in the diagnosis quite sure and accurate. Until now I have daily doctor visits, unpleasant inquiries, syringes and drugs behind me. I thin this will go one in the next time...
BRAVO: Wo cares now about you?
BILL: Actually, all for me. Tommy is already there for me, Georg and Gustav are also visiting me very often. With the doctors, I am in constant contact. And the family, friends and our entire team are of course also for me there.
BRAVO: The only german concert in Dortmund had to be cancelled - just like the rest of the European tour. Will it be sometime later?
BILL: It isn't clear yet! But we hope so!
BRAVO: How can take care about your voice in the future, so that this will never happen again?
BILL: This doesn't work. I'm using my voice of course more than the others, because of this, is the injury risc by msyelf higher. I really take care about my voice. I even have had singing lessons in the past! I didn't like it, but before each show, I'm doing singing exercises, singing me warm. But this can ever happen again. Surely I will learn at the after treatment some more specific training methods which I should use...
BRAVO: Have you simply too much expected?
BILL: We were very much on the road - the first shows in the United States, then the tour samples and the tour start. That was probably too much for my voice. I'm a perfectionist and wants to give always the best. I always challenge myself anew, just want, that every show will be perfect and maybe I ignore the signs of a common cold, because I don't want to see them!
BRAVO: How did the other guys react when they realized that your voice is no longer playing?
BILL: They have all made themselves big worries. They didn't know as much as I had known, how it will go on. And we were waiting all together for the first feedback from the doctor. We were all totally in the air.
BRAVO: How many concerts have to be cancelled because of this now?
BILL: All after Lisbon. This is in total 16 concerts. A real disaster!
BRAVO: Is now the entire tour including the United States at risk?
BILL: We can't say that at the moment! We know that maybe in a few weeks!
BRAVO: Are the concert organizers and fans angry now?
BILL: I had to accept this first, that the illness wasn't my fault. This was really difficult for me, and I made myself very big reproaches! The organizers are not angry, but all are of course disappointed! We were so much happy to tour through Europe! I received so much letters from our fans. All are wishing me, that everything will be very fast okay! It does me good and helps me a lot! I thank them very sincerely, that they are supporting me also in that bad time. I can't say often enough, that I am extremely sorry, how everything has come. And I hope that the fans are not disappointed. I would immediately change if I could! I hope, that we can make everything okay in summer, at our festival tour...

"Nothing but money-hungry or what? Tokio Hotel have written a miserable letter to the chancellor Angela Merkel. That is to say, millionaire Bill Kaulitz (18) fears that he doesn’t get enough in his account anymore due to illegal internet downloads. The country should now hunt down the girls who cannot afford expensive Tokio Hotel things with their 15-Euro pocket money. A punishment for true fans!"
